Coalescence and counterflow of droplets on needle electrode with negative corona discharge

Zutao Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the coalescence of droplets on the discharge electrode surface in high humidity environments and explores the counterflow phenomenon of droplets using corona discharge in a needle-plate electrode. The results show that the number of coalesced droplets reaches its maximum at specific conditions, and the size of the attached droplet depends on the balance of coalescence and evaporation. Coalescence is mainly influenced by the dielectrophoretic force caused by the high electric field gradient, while evaporation is related to the ionic wind generated by the corona discharge. The counterflow phenomenon of droplets is speculated to be driven by the high concentration gradient of positive ions near the needle electrode and repulsive forces from electrons and negative ions below the needle tip.

Corona Discharge Characteristics in Electrostatic Precipitator Under High Temperature

Zhendong Yuan et al.

Summary: Harmful substances emitted from marine diesel engines, such as black carbon, have a significant impact on the air environment. Traditional diesel particulate filters are not suitable for collecting high concentration particles from heavy fuel oil emissions. Electrostatic precipitators have advantages of a simpler structure, lower pressure loss, and higher collection efficiency.

Fog Droplet Collection by Corona Discharge in a Needle-Cylinder Electrostatic Precipitator with a Water Cooling System

Hui Fu et al.

Summary: In this study, a needle-cylinder electrostatic precipitator with a water cooling system was designed to enhance the harvest of atmospheric water in wet flue gas. The effects of flow rate, temperature, and particles on the collection of fog droplets were investigated, and the energy efficiency of water collection was analyzed at different voltages. The results showed that the current decreased with increasing air relative humidity under the same voltage, while the breakdown voltage increased significantly. Increasing the residence time of fog droplets in the electric field by reducing the wet flue gas flow velocity improved the water collection efficiency. By decreasing the flue gas temperature and introducing particles in the wet gas, both the water collection rate and energy efficiency could be improved. However, with the increase of voltage, although the water collection rate increased, the energy efficiency decreased.

Effects of temperature and humidity on ground total electric field under HVDC lines

X. Q. Ma et al.

Summary: The study investigated the impact of temperature and humidity on the ground total electric field of HVDC transmission lines, finding that the field exhibits polarity dependence during temperature and humidity changes. In simulations of natural environments, an increase in relative humidity and decrease in temperature resulted in different trends in the ground total electric field.

Study on the Influence Factors of Rod Plate Gap Corona Discharge Environment Based on UV Imaging

Shenghui Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of environmental factors on the detection of corona discharge using ultraviolet imaging, finding that the area of the discharge spot increases nonlinearly with temperature, decreases with humidity, and is weakened by wind speed. Air pressure also plays a significant role in ultraviolet imaging, with discharge at higher altitudes found to be stronger than at lower altitudes. The research proposes a method for normalizing spot area with a correction coefficient, offering guidance for engineering practices with a correction error of less than 20%.

Effect of Relative Humidity on the Surface Electric Field Intensity Characteristics under DC Voltage in a Corona Cage

Hongbo Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of relative humidity on the surface electric field (SEF) strength and space charge density, with the results showing a mutual inhibition between the two. After corona occurs, SEF decreases with voltage while charge density increases. A turning point for SEF was observed around 70% humidity.
