Fetal exome sequencing for isolated increased nuchal translucency: should we be doing it?

R. Mellis et al.

Summary: Prenatal exome sequencing has a low diagnostic yield for fetuses with isolated increased nuchal translucency, but significantly higher when there are additional structural anomalies present. It may not be appropriate for truly isolated increased NT cases, but careful ultrasound scanning to identify other anomalies emerging later can direct testing to focus where there is a higher likelihood of diagnosis.

Prenatal Sonographic Features of CHARGE Syndrome

Kuntharee Traisrisilp et al.

Summary: CHARGE syndrome is a rare autosomal dominant disorder characterized by a combination of specific anomalies, including heart defects, ear abnormalities, and renal malrotation. This case report identified a novel genetic variant in the CHD7 gene, expanding the mutational spectrum of CHARGE syndrome. Prenatal sonographers should be aware of minor abnormalities as genetic sonomarkers for early detection.
