An outbreak of human listeriosis associated with frozen sweet corn consumption: Investigations in the UK

Jim McLauchlin et al.

Summary: This report summarizes a multi-country outbreak of human listeriosis associated with consumption of frozen sweet corn produced in Hungary, with a focus on cases in the UK and investigations conducted on the affected food chain. By utilizing Whole genome sequencing analysis, the complex food chain involved in the outbreak was revealed. The study underscores the risks of transmission of human listeriosis from frozen sweet corn and the potential misuse of this food as a ready-to-eat product.

Bacteriocins as a new generation of antimicrobials: toxicity aspects and regulations

Samira Soltani et al.

Summary: Bacteriocins have gained attention as antimicrobial compounds in recent decades, with potential applications in clinical settings and as immune-modulating agents. Despite their effectiveness against antibiotic-resistant bacteria, limited safety and toxicity data hinder their broader use in the food and medical industry. Nisin remains the only bacteriocin approved as a food preservative by regulatory agencies.
