Jerveratrum-Type Steroidal Alkaloids Inhibit β-1,6-Glucan Biosynthesis in Fungal Cell Walls

Karen Kubo et al.

Summary: The limited number of effective antifungal agents highlights the need for the development of new antifungals. In this study, we found that jervine, a jerveratrum-type steroidal alkaloid isolated from Veratrum californicum, exhibited broad-spectrum antifungal activity against human-pathogenic and phytopathogenic fungi. Furthermore, jervine showed synergy with fluconazole, an existing antifungal drug.

Sub3 inhibitsAspergillus flavusgrowth by disrupting mitochondrial energy metabolism, and has potential biocontrol during peanut storage

Wei Zhang et al.

Summary: Experimental results demonstrated that Sub3 effectively inhibits the germination of A. flavus spores by altering their morphology and targeting the cell membrane, leading to cell death. Additionally, Sub3 disrupts mitochondrial energy metabolism, induces DNA damage, and reduces colonization capacity of spores on peanut seeds.

Combined transcriptome and metabolome analyses reveal the potential mechanism for the inhibition of Penicillium digitatum by X33 antimicrobial oligopeptide

Shuhua Lin et al.

Summary: The study found that X33 AMOP inhibits the growth of P. digitatum by affecting cell integrity, genetic information delivery, oxidative stress tolerance, and energy metabolism. This information provides insight into the antimicrobial mechanism of X33 AMOP against P. digitatum.
