Recent advances in polyphenol oxidase-mediated plant stress responses

Jin Zhang et al.

Summary: Plant polyphenol oxidases (PPOs) are important enzymes in plant defense against herbivores and pathogens, with extensive research uncovering their sophisticated mechanisms over the past few decades. Understanding the regulation and defensive roles of PPOs has driven the development of new hypotheses and advanced studies in this field. Further exploration of unexplored dimensions of PPO defense functions, such as co- and post-transcriptional processes, should be a future research priority.

Efficacy of Wickerhamomyces anomalus yeast in the biocontrol of blue mold decay in apples and investigation of the mechanisms involved

Lina Zhao et al.

Summary: The study showed that W. anomalus significantly reduced postharvest blue mold decay of apples without affecting fruit quality. In addition, W. anomalus inhibited spore germination and germ tube elongation of the fungus, as well as induced the activity of enzymes and increased the content of compounds in apples, leading to effective control of blue mold decay.
