Synthesis of sodium alginate/carboxy-methyl cellulose/Cu-based metal-organic framework composite for adsorption of tetracycline from aqueous solution: Isotherm, kinetic and thermodynamic approach

Atefeh Ehsani et al.

Summary: Sodium alginate/carboxy-methyl cellulose/Cu-based metal-organic framework (SA/CMC/Cu-BDC) nano-composite beads were prepared and characterized. The composite beads exhibited high surface area and showed promising adsorption capacity for Tetracycline (TC) antibiotic. The adsorption process followed Langmuir isotherm model and pseudo-second-order kinetic model. Thermodynamical analysis suggested that the adsorption of TC onto the composite beads was spontaneous and endothermic. The interactions of hydrogen bonding, electrostatic, and 7C-7C played significant roles in the adsorption process.

Removal of micropollutants from municipal wastewater by membrane bioreactors: Conventional membrane versus dynamic membrane

Onur Isik et al.

Summary: This study investigated the fate of micropollutants in a membrane bioreactor with dynamic membrane and ultrafiltration membrane for the treatment of raw municipal wastewater. High removal efficiencies of total suspended solids, chemical oxygen demand, and micropollutants were achieved with each membrane. Morphological analyses were conducted to gain insight into the cake layer accumulated on the membrane, showing that dynamic membrane technology provides an effective alternative for micropollutant removal from municipal wastewater.

Adsorptive Desulfurization of Liquid Hydrocarbons Utilizing Granular Cu/Cr-BDC@?-Al2O3 Bimetal-Organic Frameworks

Siyamak Nejatbakhsh et al.

Summary: A Cu/Cr-BDC@gamma-Al2O3 granular bimetal-organic framework was successfully synthesized, and its adsorption performance for thiophene from isooctane was investigated. The bimetallic adsorbent exhibited better performance due to the synergistic effects of simultaneous metal presence, and the granular adsorbent prevented particle agglomeration. The highest adsorption percentage and adsorbent capacity were 84% and 55 mg/g, respectively. The adsorption mechanism was determined to be monolayer chemisorption based on experimental data fitting with kinetic and isotherm models, and the adsorbents could be regenerated up to 5 times.

Adsorptive removal of pharmaceuticals from water using metal-organic frameworks: A review

Lijin Huang et al.

Summary: Pharmaceutical pollution is a major concern, and regulating the concentration of pharmaceuticals in water is crucial for clean water provision. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are promising adsorbents for removing pharmaceutical contaminants due to their high surface area, controllable structure, and easy modification. Methods for preparing water-stable MOF-based materials and recent advancements in adsorptive removal of pharmaceutical pollutants using functional MOFs are discussed, along with potential interactions such as coordination, hydrogen bonding, and electrostatic forces. Future research should focus on creating desirable MOFs and establishing structure-property relationships for improved capture performance.
