Nonlinear seismic inversion by physics-informed Caianiello convolutional neural networks for overpressure prediction of source rocks in the offshore Xihu depression, East China

Yifan Cheng et al.

Summary: Pressure prediction in petroleum geology has traditionally been limited to moderately overpressured formations. However, in the Xihu depression, overpressures caused by natural gas generation result in high-pressure structures with thick mud-coated thin sand reservoirs, posing challenges for traditional methods. To address this, a physics-informed Caianiello convolutional neural network (CCNN) approach is proposed, which combines deterministic and statistical mechanisms for overpressure prediction. The comprehensive CCNN-based seismic inversion scheme demonstrates applicability in the Xihu depression, with the potential to improve prediction accuracy through the addition of new data.
