Risk-stratified strategies in population screening for colorectal cancer

Iris Lansdorp-Vogelaar et al.

Summary: Risk-based colorectal cancer screening can optimize resource allocation and improve the benefit-harm ratio. Reliable risk prediction models and participation are essential for successful implementation. While recognizing the limitations of current approaches, introducing tailored strategies within screening programmes is feasible and may lead to substantial improvements.

Summary: In the population-based screening program in Stockholm-Gotland, the test sensitivity for colorectal cancer was found to be higher in women compared to men, while the rate of interval cancers did not show significant differences between genders.

Interval colorectal cancers after negative faecal immunochemical test in a 13-year screening programme

Manuel Zorzi et al.

Summary: The study assessed the sensitivity of faecal immunochemical tests for cancer in a large population-based cohort over six rounds of screening, finding a sensitivity of 86.9% overall. The incidence of interval colorectal cancers was low with a sensitivity higher than 80%. Different trends in sensitivity were observed using the Proportional Interval Cancer Rate and the Interval Cancer Proportion methods across screening rounds.
