Synergistic effect of gum Arabic and carboxymethyl cellulose as biocomposite coating delays senescence in stored tomatoes by regulating antioxidants and cell wall degradation

Shaghef Ejaz et al.

Summary: This study tested a novel combination of hydrocolloid gum arabic (GA) and carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) as a coating to extend the postharvest life of tomatoes. The results showed that the biocomposite hydrocolloid coating reduced weight loss, decay percentage, and stress markers in tomato fruits. It also preserved bioactive compounds, color, and enzymatic ROS scavenging mechanism, and delayed senescence by maintaining cell wall fractions.

Total soluble solids and dry matter of cucumber as indicators of shelf life

Daniel Valverde-Miranda et al.

Summary: The study revealed the relationship between the total soluble solids and dry matter content of cucumbers with their shelf life, with higher content at harvest leading to a longer shelf life. Therefore, these two parameters can serve as indicators of cucumber shelf life.

Rosmarinic Acid Delays Tomato Fruit Ripening by Regulating Ripening-Associated Traits

Changan Zhu et al.

Summary: Rosmarinic acid (RA) treatment in postharvest significantly delayed ripening, reduced ethylene production, inhibited color change, promoted amino acid accumulation, and enhanced antioxidant activity in tomato fruits. These findings indicate a novel function of RA in fruit ripening, offering an attractive strategy to manage and improve the quality of tomato fruits.

Regulation of Vitamin C Accumulation for Improved Tomato Fruit Quality and Alleviation of Abiotic Stress

Ifigeneia Mellidou et al.

Summary: Ascorbic acid plays a crucial role in plant development and stress response, with the regulation of its concentrations through biosynthetic, recycling, and transport mechanisms being key for enhancing its levels in tomatoes without negative impacts on plant growth or fruit development.

Carbon Dioxide Pretreatment and Cold Storage Synergistically Delay Tomato Ripening through Transcriptional Change in Ethylene-Related Genes and Respiration-Related Metabolism

Me-Hea Park et al.

Summary: The study showed that pretreatment with 30% or 60% CO2 before cold storage can delay tomato ripening and improve quality, even after transfer to ambient conditions. It also reduces pits and significantly suppresses decay rate. Transcriptome and metabolome analyses indicated the involvement of CO2-responsive genes or metabolites in regulating fruit quality through ethylene biosynthesis and signaling pathways.

Regulation of Postharvest Tomato Fruit Ripening by Endogenous Salicylic Acid

Chunoti Changwal et al.

Summary: High endogenous SA is associated with low ET evolution and high SL, while high lycopene content is correlated with high SA levels. Total antioxidants, PG, and PME decrease with fruit development, while lipid peroxidation increases. SlPAL4 and SlPAL6 genes play significant but opposite roles in regulating fruit ripening.

Extending Shelf Life and Maintaining Quality of Tomato Fruit by Calcium Chloride, Hydrogen Peroxide, Chitosan, and Ozonated Water

Said A. Shehata et al.

Summary: Calcium chloride, chitosan, hydrogen peroxide, and ozonated water were studied for their effects on the storage ability and quality of tomato fruit, with chitosan and calcium chloride identified as the most effective treatments. The study also found that ascorbic acid and total carotenoids play a vital role in maintaining tomato fruit quality during storage.

Purification and characterization of peroxidases from garden cress sprouts and their roles in lignification and removal of phenol and p-chlorophenol

Azza M. Abdel-Aty et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the peroxidases of day-6 garden cress sprouts and their relation with phenolic compounds. Anionic peroxidase GCP2 showed high affinity towards lignin monomers and had a significant role in lignin synthesis. Both GCP1 and GCP2 demonstrated stable activity under different pH and temperature ranges, with GCP2 displaying greater resistance to metal ions and higher efficiency in removing phenolic compounds from wastewater.
