Preferential siRNA delivery to injured kidneys for combination treatment of acute kidney injury

Weimin Tang et al.

Summary: This study introduces a siRNA carrier designed for injured kidneys in AKI, showing potential to enhance therapeutic effects and improve kidney function. By inhibiting CXCR4 and p53 simultaneously, the PCX/sip53 polyplexes can selectively deliver therapeutic siRNA in AKI, reducing renal damage.

Gallium(III)-Mediated Dual-Cross-Linked Alginate Hydrogels with Antibacterial Properties for Promoting Infected Wound Healing

Jiajun Qin et al.

Summary: Gallium metal has great potential in fighting infections by disrupting bacterial iron metabolism. This study explores the use of gallium-mediated hydrogel for treating infected wounds. The innovative design of a dual-cross-linked alginate hydrogel, with gallium as a crosslinking and therapeutic agent, showed broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity and improved mechanical performance. In vitro and in vivo results demonstrated the biocompatibility, reduced bacterial growth, and accelerated healing of infected wounds, making the gallium-incorporated hydrogel an ideal antimicrobial dressing.

Renal Nano-drug delivery for acute kidney Injury: Current status and future perspectives

Hui Nee Geo et al.

Summary: This article reviews the current status and future trajectories of renal nanomedicine research for the management of acute kidney injury (AKI). The use of nanosized drug carriers (NDCs) for the delivery of reno-protective agents is evaluated, with a focus on improving renal tissue targeting selectivity and efficacy. The need to identify accumulation sites of NDCs in renal tissues during in vivo assessments is highlighted.

Inflammation-Stimulated MSC-Derived Small Extracellular Vesicle miR-27b-3p Regulates Macrophages by Targeting CSF-1 to Promote Temporomandibular Joint Condylar Regeneration

Yufei Liu et al.

Summary: Small extracellular vesicles (sEVs) secreted by mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have been extensively studied. When MSCs are exposed to an inflammatory environment, they release more functional factors to regulate the inflammatory microenvironment and promote tissue regeneration. Inflammatory-stimulated sEVs show enhanced functions in cell proliferation, migration, and macrophage polarization. In vivo experiments demonstrate that modified sEVs have significant therapeutic effects on temporomandibular joint regeneration.

Hyaluronic acid coated bilirubin nanoparticles attenuate ischemia reperfusion-induced acute kidney injury

Zhi-Wei Huang et al.

Summary: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common pathological process associated with high morbidity and mortality worldwide. Bilirubin, with its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-apoptotic properties, shows promise as a therapeutic candidate for AKI. Nanotechnology-mediated therapy, particularly using hyaluronic acid-coated epsilon-polylysine-bilirubin conjugate nanoparticles (nHA/PLBR), has shown potential for targeted delivery and enhanced efficacy in protecting against renal injury induced by oxidative stress and inflammation in AKI.

Progenitor cell-derived exosomes endowed with VEGF plasmids enhance osteogenic induction and vascular remodeling in large segmental bone defects

Yao Zha et al.

Summary: In this study, a cell-free tissue engineering system using functional exosomes was developed to induce osteogenic differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells and release the VEGF gene for vascular remodeling. The engineered exosomes effectively combined with 3D-printed porous bone scaffolds and induced vascularized bone regeneration in vivo. This work highlights the potential of exosomes as therapeutic nanoparticles for acellular tissue engineering.
