Oxidation treatment on wood cell walls affects gas permeability and sound absorption capacity

Haradhan Kolya et al.

Summary: This research aimed to study the efficacy of oxidation in wood cell walls by ammonium persulfate solution and its effects on sound absorption coefficients and gas permeability in Oak wood. The oxidation treatment changed the chemical compositions of wood, boosting wood porosity and gas permeability. It significantly improved the average sound absorption coefficient at different frequency ranges and could be helpful for research and production of wood-based sound absorption materials to manage the acoustic housing environment.

Effects of ammonium persulfate on coconut wood (Cocos nucifera L.) cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin polymers: Improved sound absorption capacity

Haradhan Kolya et al.

Summary: This article focuses on the rational design of sound absorption boards made of wood materials, specifically coconut wood cell walls. A simple and low-cost ammonium persulfate treatment was applied to enhance the sound absorption properties of the wood. The study found significant changes in the wood cell walls, resulting in improved sound absorption coefficients across different frequency ranges. These findings have implications for the development of wood-based sound absorption materials to regulate the acoustic environment in houses.
