Structural characterization of lignin and lignin-carbohydrate complex (LCC) of sesame hull

Meng-Ke He et al.

Summary: In this study, lignin and lignin-carbohydrate complex (LCC) from sesame hulls were investigated to explore dehulling techniques. The results showed that rhamnose and glucose were the major components in lignin and LCC fractions. Bjo center dot rkman LCC had the largest molecular weight, MWL had the smallest molecular weight, and LCC-AcOH had the largest polydispersity index. The study also revealed the presence of a new type of lignin (C-type lignin) and identified the major lignin-linked bonds in different fractions.

Summary: The study demonstrates that LCC-A has higher ROS scavenging ability for inhibiting osteoclast differentiation, while LCC-B promotes osteoblast differentiation through the antioxidant pathway, particularly in an inflammatory environment. Therapeutic administration of both LCC-A and LCC-B shows positive effects in regulating bone metabolism and preventing calvaria impairment.

Summary: Research has shown that human intestinal microbiota can utilize lignin-carbohydrate complexes (LCCs) as a carbon source for growth, producing short-chain fatty acids and aromatic compounds with potential health benefits. Different sources of LCCs have varying effects on the biomass of intestinal microbiota and the production of phenolic compounds.
