Consensus-Based Recommendations on Priority Activities to Address Acute Kidney Injury in Children A Modified Delphi Consensus Statement

Stuart L. Goldstein et al.

Summary: Increasing evidence suggests that acute kidney injury (AKI) occurs frequently in children and young adults and is associated with poor outcomes. This study aimed to develop expert-driven recommendations to expand pediatric AKI knowledge. The meeting resulted in 12 consensus statements and 29 research recommendations, highlighting the need to include data from diverse socioeconomic groups, broaden the definition of AKI, integrate the biological pathophysiology of child growth and development, and engage with families and communities in AKI advocacy.

Long-term kidney function of patients discharged from hospital after an intensive care admission: observational cohort study

Ryan W. Haines et al.

Summary: The study indicates that the trajectory of kidney function in critical care patients follows a pattern of initial decline followed by sustained decrease after discharge, highlighting the importance of monitoring eGFR in the early months post-hospital discharge, regardless of AKI severity.

Definitions of acute renal dysfunction: an evolving clinical and biomarker paradigm

Marlies Ostermann et al.

Summary: The review highlights limitations in the current definition and classification of acure kidney injury (AKI) and presents recent advances in understanding its pathophysiology and epidemiology, which offer opportunities for personalized management and refinement of existing criteria. The identification of different sub-phenotypes of AKI based on genetic, molecular, cellular, and functional pathophysiological changes following potential nephrotoxic exposures is possible with new technologies.
