Tctp regulates the level and localization of Foxo for cell growth in Drosophila

Sujin Nam et al.

Summary: In this study, the role of Drosophila Tctp and its interaction with 14-3-3 in the regulation of Foxo during organ development is investigated. Tctp antagonizes the effect of Foxo by downregulating its level in the developing eye disc. Knockdown of Tctp or overexpression of Foxo in the larval salivary gland leads to reduced gland size. Knockdown of 14-3-3 epsilon mimics the effect of Foxo overexpression or Tctp knockdown, suggesting an isoform-specific role of 14-3-3 in cell growth regulation.

Vestigial mediates the effect of insulin signaling pathway on wing-morph switching in planthoppers

Jin-Li Zhang et al.

Summary: The study reveals that in the wing-dimorphic planthopper, the insulin/insulin-like growth factor signaling pathway regulates the development of alternative wing morphs by selectively and temporally controlling the key wing-patterning gene vestigial via the Forkhead transcription factor subgroup O (NlFoxO), providing insight into the connection between the IIS pathway and wing-patterning network in insects.

Transcriptome Analysis of the Regulatory Mechanism of FoxO on Wing Dimorphism in the Brown Planthopper, Nilaparvata lugens (Hemiptera: Delphacidae)

Nan Xu et al.

Summary: The brown planthopper Nilaparvata lugens can develop into short-winged or long-winged adults based on environmental conditions, with the transcription factor NlFoxO playing a key role in directing wing morph development. RNA sequencing analysis revealed that NlFoxO regulates wing bud development by mainly controlling the expression of cell proliferation-associated genes.

Neofunctionalization of a second insulin receptor gene in the wing-dimorphic planthopper, Nilaparvata lugens

Wen-Hua Xue et al.

Summary: In insects, the second insulin receptor (InR2) has distinct functions from the InR homologue (NlInR1) in terms of fuel metabolism, lifespan, and starvation tolerance, while resembling NlInR1 in nymph development and reproduction. Proper expression of NlInR2 is crucial for maintaining symmetric vein patterning in wings.
