Covalent organic framework modified polyacrylamide electrospun nanofiber membrane as a turn-on fluorescent sensor for primary aliphatic amine gas

Limin Zhao et al.

Summary: Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) have received much attention recently due to their excellent molecule recognition and chemical sensing capabilities. However, the utilization of COFs-based sensors is hindered by processing and forming difficulties. In this study, a composite material is designed by combining polyacrylamide (PAM) as a matrix and TFP-PPDA COF as reinforcement, resulting in a PAM/TFP-PPDA composite nanofibrous membrane (NFM) prepared using electrospinning technology. The PAM/TFP-PPDA composite demonstrates effective fluorescence sensing of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and specifically detects primary aliphatic amine through a fluorescence enhances (turn-on) effect.

Revealing initial nucleation of hexagonal boron nitride on Ru(0001) and Rh(111) surfaces by density functional theory simulations

Huanhuan Li et al.

Summary: This study systematically explores the nucleation process of hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) on metal surfaces. The results reveal that geometry types, docking sites, edged atoms, symmetry of geometries, and metal substrates can influence the stability of BN clusters. The growth of clusters undergoes a structure crossover from chain-like to honeycomb geometry, and continues until full coverage of h-BN is achieved. The nucleation process is driven by energy and charge transfer between BN clusters and underlying metals. These findings provide valuable insights for the synthesis of h-BN and other 2D materials.
