Optically thermometric sensitivities of Er3+/Yb3+ Co-doped hosts with different phonon energy

Minkun Jin et al.

Summary: For Up-conversion (UC) optical thermometers based on luminescence intensity ratio (LIR) technology, achieving high sensitivity is important and the selection of matrix and dopants plays a crucial role. This study compared the sensitivities of different matrices and found a positive correlation between sensitivity and the matching degree between phonon energy and energy gap.

Nanoscale Ultrasensitive Temperature Sensing Based on Upconversion Nanoparticles with Lattice Self-Adaptation

Xiaofeng Wu et al.

Summary: Lattice self-adaptation is found to remarkably enhance the thermal sensitivity of upconversion nanoparticles by utilizing the thermally sensitive fluorescence intensity ratio of the dopant Er3+ and lattice distortion at the interface. The core/shell upconversion nanoparticles with lattice self-adaptation showed three times higher thermal sensitivity compared to core-only nanoparticles.

Strong Green Emission of Erbium(III)-Activated La2MgTiO6 Phosphors for Solid-State Lighting and Optical Temperature Sensors

Yongbin Hua et al.

Summary: In this work, novel green-emitting La2MgTiO6:Er3+ (LMTO:Er3+) phosphors were successfully synthesized and investigated for their phase structure, electronic structure, morphology, luminescence behaviors, and optical characteristics. The LMTO:Er3+ phosphors showed high sensing sensitivities of 0.963% and 1.107% K-1 based on the fluorescence intensity ratio principle. The packaged LED emitted near-white light with a color-rendering index of 77.12 and a correlated color temperature of 4989 K. Finally, a novel polydimethylsiloxane film-converted LED structure was fabricated.

A straightforward approach for high-end anti-counterfeiting applications based on NIR laser-driven lanthanide doped luminescent glasses

Naji Vahedigharehchopogh et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates a simple and inexpensive method for color tuning of thermally and chemically stable Ho3+/Tm3+/Yb3+ doped tellurite glasses. By manipulating the emission band ratios through focusing/defocusing the NIR laser beam, impressive up-conversion quantum yield values up to 4.56% and high lifetime values of approximately 100 to 200 microseconds are obtained. By creating anti-counterfeiting patterns using this method, different emission colors can be observed easily, highlighting the potential use of lanthanide doped glasses in anti-counterfeiting applications.
