Multidimensional Mass Spectrometry Assisted Metallo-Supramolecular Chemistry

Heng Wang et al.

Summary: This review focuses on the recent development of multidimensional mass spectrometry (MS) in metallo-supramolecular characterization. MS, including electrospray ionization-MS (ESI-MS), tandem MS (MS2), and ion mobility-MS (IM-MS), is emerging as an essential analytical tool for characterization of metallo-supramolecules. It can provide information about the chemical compositions, connectivity, stability, shape, size, as well as kinetic and thermodynamic features of self-assembly processes. The use of MS techniques helps advance the development of metallo-supramolecular chemistry.

Tuning the Performance of Negative Tone Electron Beam Resists for the Next Generation Lithography

Scott M. Lewis et al.

Summary: A new class of electron beam negative tone resist materials has been developed based on heterometallic rings. The initial resist performance demonstrates a resolution of 15 nm half-pitch but at the expense of a low sensitivity. Through the use of a 3D Monte Carlo simulation, sensitivity can be dramatically improved while maintaining high resolution, as shown by the simulation results.

Molecular Cavity for Catalysis and Formation of Metal Nanoparticles for Use in Catalysis

Rupak Saha et al.

Summary: The employment of weak intermolecular interactions in supramolecular chemistry provides an alternative approach to create artificial chemical environments resembling the active sites of enzymes. In recent years, discrete molecular architectures with defined shapes and geometries have revolutionized the field due to their intrinsic porosity and ease of synthesis using dynamic non-covalent/covalent interactions. These supramolecular systems have demonstrated various applications and catalysis within confined nanospaces has shown significant growth. This review highlights the recent advancements in catalytic activity influenced by the nanocavities of hydrogen-bonded cages, metal-ligand coordination cages, and dynamic or reversible covalently bonded organic cages in different solvent media.

Beyond Platonic: How to Build Metal-Organic Polyhedra Capable of Binding Low-Symmetry, Information-Rich Molecular Cargoes

Charlie T. McTernan et al.

Summary: The field of metallosupramolecular chemistry has made rapid progress in recent years, focusing on the formation of hollow self-assembled metalorganic structures and their applications in confining nanospaces. However, most of the structures studied so far exhibit high symmetry, which limits their ability to interact with asymmetrical biomolecules and synthetic compounds. Therefore, the design of lower-symmetry metal-organic structures is necessary to bind, sense, separate, and transform such substrates.

Evaluating the Effects of Metal Adduction and Charge Isomerism on Ion-Mobility Measurements using m-Xylene Macrocycles as Models

Damilola S. Oluwatoba et al.

Summary: Gas-phase ion-mobility spectrometry is a unique platform to study the effect of mobile charge(s) or charge location on collisional cross section and ion separation. In this study, we used synthetic chemistry and ion-mobility spectrometry mass spectrometry experiments to investigate the effects of cation/anion adduction in macrocycles. We found that charge isomerism significantly improves ion-mobility resolution and allows for determination of the metal binding mechanism in metal-inclusion macrocyclic complexes.

Disassembly Mechanisms and Energetics of Polymetallic Rings and Rotaxanes

Niklas Geue et al.

Summary: This study investigates the disassembly mechanisms and energetics of a series of heterometallic rings and ro-taxanes using ion mobility mass spectrometry and density functional theory. It shows that the stability of these complexes can be tuned by altering the metal composition and end groups.

Five-Spin Supramolecule for Simulating Quantum Decoherence of Bell States

Selena J. Lockyer et al.

Summary: This study presents a supramolecule with two different types of spins and interaction energies. The interaction energies are confirmed using electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy. Based on the measured parameters, the supramolecule is suggested for simulating quantum decoherence in maximally entangled Bell states that can be used for quantum teleportation.
