Exploring the Reactivity of Unsymmetrical Diphosphanes toward Heterocumulenes: Access to Phosphanyl and Phosphoryl Derivatives of Amides, Imines, and Iminoamides

Natalia Szynkiewicz et al.

Summary: This study presents a comprehensive investigation on the diphosphanation reactions of unsymmetrical diphosphanes with iso(thio)cyanates, showing their potential as building blocks for synthesizing phosphorus analogues of important organic molecules. The structures of the diphosphanation products were confirmed through various spectroscopic techniques. Theoretical studies further explained the influence of the parent diphosphanes on the structures of the products.

Diverse Uses of the Reaction of Frustrated Lewis Pair (FLP) with Hydrogen

Douglas W. Stephan

Summary: This Perspective discusses the new directions and developments in FLP chemistry involving hydrogen, including new applications and approaches to FLP reductions, reductions of small molecules, and advances in heterogeneous FLP systems. Despite having its roots in main group chemistry, the concept of FLPs is being applied across disciplines.

Diphosphinoboranes as Intramolecular Frustrated Lewis Pairs: P-B-P Bond Systems for the Activation of Dihydrogen, Carbon Dioxide, and Phenyl Isocyanate

Natalia Szynkiewicz et al.

Summary: This study presents the first example of activating small molecules using P-B-P bond systems, involving reactions of two diphosphinoboranes with different properties. Diphosphinoborane 1' successfully activated H-2 and CO2, while diphosphinoborane 2 did not react with H-2 under the same conditions. Both diphosphinoboranes activated PhNCO, forming products with new bonds and structures. The products were characterized using various analytical techniques, and the reaction mechanisms were elucidated using theoretical methods.
