Transition from surface phonon-polariton to surface phonon-plasmon-polariton by thermal injection of free carriers

Y. El-Helou et al.

Summary: This study experimentally investigates the transition from surface phonon-polariton to surface phonon-plasmon-polariton by thermal injection of free carriers. The results demonstrate that injecting free carriers can tune the characteristics of surface phonon-polariton, leading to a shorter mean free path.

Wide Band Gap Al and In Co-doped ZnO Films for Near-Infrared Plasmonic Application

Soumya Kannoth et al.

Summary: In this study, large area AlxInyZn1-x-yO thin films were prepared by spray coating and the effect of Al/In dopant ratio on their structural, electrical, optical, and plasmonic properties was investigated. The results showed that films with different Al/In ratios exhibited distinct plasmonic properties in the near infrared region, with In being the most activated dopant. The minimum plasmonic loss observed suggests the potential suitability of these films as alternative plasmonic materials in the near infrared.

Peculiarities of specular infrared reflection spectra of ZnO-based ceramics

O. V. Melnichuk et al.

Summary: Undoped and Mn-doped ZnO ceramics were investigated using specular infrared reflection method, revealing the influence of ZnO grain orientation on IR reflection spectra. The electrophysical parameters of ZnO crystallites were evaluated successfully, with consistent results for undoped ceramics but lower conductivity values for Mn-doped ceramics due to barrier formation at grain boundaries.

Raman measurement of the effect of lattice defects on the two-phonon density of states in ZnO

Ibrahim Nour-Al-Deen et al.

Summary: This study derived the two-phonon density of states (DOS) in ZnO by analyzing Raman measurements of the E2High mode, showing significant changes in the DOS with temperature variations. The results demonstrated that lattice defects significantly enhance the two-phonon DOS, emphasizing the importance of an effective thermal management strategy when utilizing ZnO lattice defects for technology applications.

Effect of strain on structural and electronic properties, and thermoelectric response of MXY (M=Zr, Hf and Pt; X/Y=S, Se) vdW heterostructures; A first principles study

Sheraz Ahmad et al.

Summary: The physical properties of materials can be tuned for applications in nanoelectronics and renewable energy by stacking two-dimensional materials and applying strain through weak van der Waals interaction. Studies on Janus transition metal dichalcogenides heterostructures have investigated their electronic properties and band alignment, confirming type-I alignment and observing transitions to type-II or type-III alignment with strain. Investigation using semi classical Boltzmann transport theory has shown that these heterostructures have high Seebeck coefficients, making them suitable for thermoelectric devices.
