Enzymatic synthesis of palm oil-based trimethylolpropane ester as biolubricant base stock catalyzed by Lipozyme 435

Nur Sulihatimarsyila Abd Wafti et al.

Summary: The application of enzymes in the organic synthesis of polyol esters for biolubricants is explored in this study. TMP ester was synthesized from HO-PME through enzymatic transesterification. This research demonstrates that only 3% enzyme dosage is needed to achieve the highest triester yield of 82% without purification. The enzymatically synthesized TMP ester exhibits excellent lubricant properties.

Bioprocess development for biolubricant production using non-edible oils, agro-industrial byproducts and wastes

Madhavi Perera et al.

Summary: In recent years, vegetable oils and their derivatives have gained attention as environmentally friendly lubricants due to their biodegradability, renewable nature, and superior lubrication performance compared to fossil commercial lubricants. This review examines the zero-waste approach of enzymatic conversion for bio-lubricant production using non-edible oil and agro-industrial waste, while also exploring the use of lipase as a biocatalyst in place of chemically mediated transesterification processes. The article provides information on the types of lipases used, their optimal reaction conditions, and the maximum product yields, as well as highlights the physicochemical properties and enhanced application fields of bio-lubricants.

Quantitative and qualitative analysis of biodiesel by NMR spectroscopic methods

Khalid I. Doudin

Summary: Biodiesel is a renewable, biodegradable, non-toxic fuel typically produced from vegetable oil and animal fat. NMR spectroscopic methods are utilized to investigate the molecular compositions of biodiesel samples, evaluate the transesterification process, and quantify methanol in biodiesel as an alternative to traditional methods.
