Complementary dual-doping of LiNi0.8Co0.1 Mn0.1O2 cathode enhances ion-diffusion and stability for Li-ion batteries

Zhihong Wang et al.

Summary: The Ni-rich LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2 (NCM811) layered cathodes provide lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) with high energy density, but face challenges of limited ion-diffusion and structural instability. In this study, Zr/Ti dual-doped NCM811 cathode material (ZT-NCM811) is reported, which effectively enhances crystal structure stability and reduces crystal surface parasitic reactions. The dual-doped ZT-NCM811 exhibits higher specific capacity and better cycling stability compared to undoped and single-doped NCM811, demonstrating superior battery performance.

Restraining the escape of lattice oxygen enables superior cyclic performance towards high-voltage Ni-rich cathodes

Haifeng Yu et al.

Summary: A dual-track strategy of tantalum doping and cerium oxide coating is used to fully restrain the escape of lattice oxygen from Ni-rich cathodes in high-voltage regions, enhancing the performance and safety of lithium-ion batteries. The treated cathode exhibits high cyclic performance within the voltage range of 2.7-4.5 V.

Dynamic phase transition behavior of a LiMn0.5Fe0.5PO4 olivine cathode material for lithium-ion batteries revealed through in-situ X-ray techniques

Sujeera Pleuksachat et al.

Summary: LiMn0.5Fe0.5PO4 is a material with good electrochemical performance and higher operating voltages, leading to more than 30% higher energy density than commercial LiFePO4 cathodes. This study investigated the non-equilibrium phase transition behaviors of LiMn0.5Fe0.5PO4 cathode material during charge-discharge processes using synchrotron in-situ X-ray techniques. The results provide insights into the phase transition behavior and oxidation numbers of redox reactions, which are crucial for future developments of this cathode material.
