Insights from molecular dynamics on CO2 diffusion coefficient in saline water over a wide range of temperatures, pressures, and salinity: CO2 geological storage implications

Sina Omrani et al.

Summary: This research utilized Molecular Dynamics simulation to calculate the CO2 diffusion coefficient under various NaCl saline water concentrations, temperatures, and pressures. Higher NaCl concentrations were found to lead to a decrease in CO2 diffusion coefficient, and a new precise correlation was proposed for estimation. The presence of other salts such as CaCl2 and KCl had varying effects on the CO2 diffusion coefficient, with CaCl2 having the highest impact and KCl having the lowest.

A perspective on multi-component resistance analogy analysis for process intensification: Taking supercritical water gasification of coal as an example

Hui Jin et al.

Summary: Resistance analysis is often limited to specific fields, but engineering applications require the coupling of multiple resistances. Supercritical water gasification offers a clean and low-carbon way for coal hydrogen production, with complete gasification being a prerequisite for industrialization. This paper introduces a novel idea of multi-component resistance analogy analysis to reduce process resistance and achieve process intensification by focusing on interface reaction, boundary layer, and vertex diffusion. Further research will focus on applying resistance analogy analysis to general multiphase flow and optimizing reactor design and scale-up.

Production forecast analysis of BP neural network based on Yimin lignite supercritical water gasification experiment results

Bowei Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper experimentally studied the effects of temperature, concentration, and residence time on gasification products and employed a BP neural network regression model for prediction. The results showed that the single-layer neural network had better fitting effect and significantly outperformed the linear regression model in predicting the gas products.

Measurement of diffusion coefficients of hydrogen sulfide in water and brine using in-situ Raman spectroscopy

Yingying Huang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the diffusion coefficients of hydrogen sulfide in water and brine. The results showed that the diffusion coefficient of hydrogen sulfide in water increased with temperature and was not significantly affected by pressure. In brine, the diffusion coefficient of hydrogen sulfide also increased with temperature but was inhibited by salinity.

The influence of Stefan flow on the flow and heat-transfer characteristics of spherical-particle pair in supercritical water

Yingdong Wang et al.

Summary: For mixtures with dispersed reactive particles, especially highly concentrated particles, the interactions between particles and between particles and fluid are complex and have significant effects on the overall flow. This study focuses on the flow and fluid-particle heat transfer characteristics of supercritical water flowing around a fixed two-particle system. The effects of different particle configurations and the influence of Stefan flow are analyzed. The results show that the configurations of two particles have significant impacts on the drag coefficient, Nusselt number, and vortex structure, and the wake vortex structure is strongly affected by Stefan flow, which reduces the drag coefficient and Nusselt number.

A zero-dimensional model of porous char gasification in supercritical water: Experiments and mathematical modeling

Chao Fan et al.

Summary: This study developed a zero-dimensional model of porous char gasification in supercritical water, which can be used for reactor-scale modeling and simulation. The evolution of specific surface area of char was obtained through experiments, and a kinetic model with detailed conversion pathways and consideration of specific surface area evolution was proposed. The model was evaluated by fitting experimental results and calculating intrinsic kinetic parameters. The developed sub-model showed reasonable prediction of gasification process and good description of particle characteristics.

A predictive model for self-, Maxwell-Stefan, and Fick diffusion coefficients of binary supercritical water mixtures

Xiao Zhao et al.

Summary: By using molecular dynamic simulations, diffusion coefficients of binary supercritical water mixtures (species 1: H2O, species 2: H-2, CH4, CO, O-2, CO2) at high temperatures and pressures were calculated, showing that temperature and mole fraction play significant roles in determining self- and Maxwell-Stefan diffusion coefficients, while Fick diffusion coefficient can be considered constant at certain temperatures in binary mixtures. Overall, a general predictive model with shared modification factors for equations was developed.

Adsorption and diffusion characteristics of CH4, CO2, and N2 in micropores and mesopores of bituminous coal: Molecular dynamics

Hang Long et al.

Summary: The research found that with the increase of pore size, the gas loading amount in the pore model increased, but the tight adsorption amount and adsorption heat decreased. The order of CO2 > CH4 > N2 is the arrangement order of tight adsorption amount, loading amount and adsorption heat. The diffusion characteristics of the three gases in the pores are CH4 > N2 > CO2, and larger pores are more conducive to gas diffusion.
