Base-Free Synthesis and Photophysical Properties of New Schiff Bases Containing Indole Moiety

Ahmed I. A. Soliman et al.

Summary: The synthesis of new Schiff bases containing indole moieties using piperidine and Au@TiO2 as catalysts was compared in this study. Both methods resulted in high yielding products, which were fully characterized. Au@TiO2 was found to be a separable and recyclable catalyst compared to piperidine. Additionally, the synthesized Schiff bases exhibited specific luminescence behavior, which could potentially contribute to the reduction of energy consumption in emitting devices.

Au/TiO2-Catalyzed Benzyl Alcohol Oxidation on Morphologically Precise Anatase Nanoparticles

Akbar Mahdavi-Shakib et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the morphology of TiO2 supports affects the catalytic activity of Au/TiO2, with the predominantly {101} material showing higher catalytic activity due to the presence of smaller Au particles providing more interfacial area. The differences between the two catalysts are mainly caused by geometric effects rather than electronic differences.

Contribution of H-Abstraction to Photocatalytic Oxidation of As(III) by Bi2.15WO6

Dai Sun et al.

Summary: The mechanisms involved in the photocatalytic oxidation of As(III) are complex, with various oxidizing species playing important roles. Bi2.15WO6 shows high reactivity in the oxidation of As(III) under visible light, with surface superoxo and peroxo species also contributing to the process. Increased production of H2O2 indicates the importance of H-abstraction from As(III) or H-donors in the oxidation mechanism.

Supramolecular Control of Reactivity toward Hydrolysis of 7-Diethylaminocoumarin Schiff Bases by Cucurbit[7]uril Encapsulation

Jackson J. Alcazar et al.

Summary: In this study, a series of aromatic Schiff bases containing 7-diethylamino-coumarin with different substituents on an adjacent phenyl ring were synthesized and characterized. The stability of these dyes in acidic medium was assessed by studying their hydrolysis reactions both in the absence and presence of the macrocycle CB[7]. The results revealed supramolecular control of CB[7] on the reactivity and stability of 7-diethylaminocoumarin Schiff bases, with CB[7] exhibiting both catalytic and inhibitory effects on the hydrolysis reactions.

Selective oxidation of benzyl alcohol using a Ni(OH)2-modified CdS-MoS2 composite photocatalyst under ambient conditions

Chao Cui et al.

Summary: In this study, a composite photocatalyst of Ni(OH)(2) loaded on CdS-MoS2 was developed, facilitating the efficient oxidation of benzyl alcohol to benzaldehyde in pure water. The synergistic effect of Ni(OH)(2) and metallic Ni significantly improved the photocatalytic oxidation properties, enhancing both the efficiency and stability of the reaction.

Mechanochemical Drug Conjugation via pH-Responsive Imine Linkage for Polyether Prodrug Micelles

Sohee Han et al.

Summary: Prodrug-type polymer-drug conjugates based on highly biocompatible functional polyethers are developed through mechanochemical post-polymerization modification, allowing for the conjugation of these polymers with a highly hydrophobic and potent anticancer agent, cinnamaldehyde, through an imine linkage. The pH-responsive cleavage of the imine linkages under acidic conditions leads to the release of cinnamaldehyde with a concomitant disassembly of the polymeric micelles, showcasing a convenient means for smart drug delivery with superior biocompatibility.
