Sono-sorption versus adsorption for the removal of congo red from aqueous solution using NiFeLDH/Au nanocomposite: Kinetics, thermodynamics, isotherm studies, and optimization of process parameters

Mahboobeh Najafi et al.

Summary: Layered double hydroxides (LDHs), such as NiFe layered double hydroxide (NiFeLDH), have attracted attention for their adsorption and catalytic properties. In this study, NiFeLDH/Au nanocomposites were synthesized through a simple hydrothermal process using NiFeLDH as a precursor. The nanocomposites exhibited high adsorption performance for the removal of Congo Red dye from aqueous media, with a removal efficiency of 95% in 7 minutes. The superior performance was attributed to the high specific surface area, well-dispersed Au nanoparticles, and synergistic effects between Au and NiFeLDH.

Summary: Nowadays, antibiotic water pollution is a dangerous environmental threat. Photocatalysts, such as g-C3N4-Ca, Mg codoped CoFe2O4-ZnO (gCN-CFO-ZnO) nanocomposite, offer a potential solution for the removal of non-degradable organic matter in contaminated water. The degradation of penicillin G (PENG) was studied under different conditions, such as contaminant concentration, pH, and irradiation time. The results showed that the gCN-CFO-ZnO (33.33%) nanocomposite demonstrated higher efficiency in the degradation of PENG, especially in acidic conditions.
