This study demonstrates that gut regionalization can affect microbiota and immunity through the regulation of GATA4 expression, which controls bacterial colonization, retinol metabolism, and IgA production. This metabolic-immune axis plays a crucial role in limiting intestinal Th17 responses and immunopathology.
How gut regionalization impacts microbiota and immunity is unclear. In this issue of Immunity, Earley et al. show that jejumal GATA4 expression controls bacteria colonization through retinol metabolism and IgA pro-duction. This metabolic-immune axis limits intestinal Th17 responses and immunopathology.
