In this correspondence, we investigate the impact of spatial coupling between base stations (BSs) and users on the cell load in cellular networks. By modeling the locations of BSs as a homogeneous Poisson point process (PPP) and the locations of users as a spatially coupled Poisson cluster process (PCP), we derive the probability generating function of intra-cluster load and propose a closed-form approximation for the distribution of typical cell load. Additionally, we analyze the load disparity in cell center and cell edge and provide insights into the mean loads and user-perceived rate coverage probabilities in these regions.
In this correspondence, we investigate the cell load on cellular networks incorporating the spatial coupling between base stations (BSs) and users. Modeling the locations of BSs as a homogeneous Poisson point process (PPP) and the locations of users as a spatially coupled Poisson cluster process (PCP), we first derive the probability generating function of the intra-cluster load by inducing a correction factor to the cell radius. We then propose a closed-form approximation for the distribution of typical cell load. Besides, observing the load disparity in cell center and cell edge, we further obtain the mean loads and the user-perceived rate coverage probabilities in these two regions. Numerical results validate the accuracy of our analysis and the tightness of the approximations and show the impacts of spatial parameters on the load and rate performance.
