Variable-Inertia Emulation Control Scheme for VSC-HVDC Transmission Systems

Zhipeng Shen et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a novel variable-inertia emulation control scheme for VSC-HVDC transmission systems, allowing energy extraction from augmented DC capacitance for inertia emulation without affecting the stability of the connected AC system. With this scheme, the inertia time constant can be flexibly emulated and adjusted automatically based on grid frequency changes, leading to more effective inertial support across different timescales.

Adaptive Virtual Synchronous Generator Considering Converter and Storage Capacity Limits

Junru Chen et al.

Summary: An adaptive virtual synchronous generator (VSG) control method is proposed in this paper to achieve optimal grid supporting services during frequency transients. The method takes into account the limitations of the converter and storage capacity, and has been validated through hardware-in-the-loop testing and implemented in an IEEE 39-bus system with storage co-located with wind farms.

An Optimal Damping Design of Virtual Synchronous Generators for Transient Stability Enhancement

Xiaoling Xiong et al.

Summary: The study found that when using the transient damping method (TDM) to introduce the frequency of a virtual synchronous generator to stabilize the system against disturbances, the gain of HPF should not be too large to avoid transient stability issues. Therefore, an optimal parameter design method for TDM is proposed to improve transient stability, with experimental results validating the theoretical findings.

Improving the Power Reference Tracking of Virtual Synchronous Machines by Feed-Forward Control

Salvatore D'Arco et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a feed-forward control method to improve the power reference tracking performance of Virtual Synchronous Machines (VSMs) without compromising their main features. The study demonstrates that the approach can effectively enhance power reference tracking capability without affecting the oscillation modes and inertial response of VSMs.
