An H5-Bridge-Based Laddered CLLC DCX With Variable DC Link for PEV Charging Applications

Mingde Zhou et al.

Summary: This article proposes a novel bidirectional CLLC converter with a H5-bridge configuration to solve the contradiction between wide voltage gain range, squeezed dc-link voltage span, and narrow switching frequency band. By configuring different switch patterns, the converter can achieve multiple working modes and six gain curves. Combined with a variable dc-link framework, the converter controls the switching frequency near the resonant frequency for optimal efficiency. This converter achieves an ultrawide battery voltage range with a squeezed dc-link span and further improves efficiency with a bidirectionally synchronous rectification method.

An LCC-Based String-to-Cell Battery Equalizer With Simplified Constant Current Control

Zhengqi Wei et al.

Summary: In this paper, a constant current string-to-cell battery equalizer with open-loop current control is proposed to effectively mitigate the inconsistency of battery strings. The equalizer achieves a constant balancing current with simple fixed-frequency open-loop control, and ensures zero-voltage switching among all MOSFETs during the equalization process. Experimental results validate the functionality and analysis of this equalizer, which exhibits a high efficiency, low components count, and obviously reduced control complexity compared with the conventional architecture.

A Low-Cost Multiwinding Transformer Balancing Topology for Retired Series-Connected Battery String

Lizhou Liu et al.

Summary: The traditional balance circuit used to balance retired battery strings requires extra space for switches, inductors, and capacitors. By combining the inductor of the dc-dc converter with the balance system using current ripple on the multiwinding transformer, additional switches and control logic are not needed. The proposed approach is effective in balancing battery strings and reduces costs by 60% and 66% compared to traditional methods.
