Design Consideration of the Shielding Wire in 10 kV Overhead Distribution Lines Against Lightning-Induced Overvoltage

Jinxin Cao et al.

Summary: This paper systematically investigates the performance of a shielding wire on 10 kV overhead lines against indirect lightning from a design point of view. Factors such as grounding interval, grounding resistance, and positioning of the shielding wire are addressed. The study finds that positioning the lightning channel in front of an ungrounded pole can negate the effects of the shielding wire, and recommends grounding the wire at every pole to reduce lightning-induced voltages.
