Short-Circuit Fault Current Modeling of a DC Light Rail System with a Wayside Energy Storage Device

Petru Valentin Radu et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a simulation model for calculating short-circuit fault currents in a DC light rail system. The model was validated and a method for assessing protection settings and circuit breaker ratings was proposed. The results indicate that the model and methodology can be used for DC light rail system protection settings and circuit breaker rating analysis.

Residual-based Short-Circuit fault detection and isolation in LVDC microgrid

Sonia Moussa et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a fast short-circuit fault detection and isolation method based on current residual computation for a standalone residential DC microgrid. The proposed method continuously compares the computed residual from sensed branch currents to their respective defined thresholds.

Short-circuit Calculations in Hybrid AC/DC Microgrids

Salvatore Favuzza et al.

Summary: This paper discusses the issues related to short-circuit calculations in hybrid AC/DC microgrids. The current reference standard for short-current calculations in DC systems does not consider more complex systems such as meshed DC systems or hybrid AC/DC microgrids. To address this limitation, the paper proposes a generalized approach that can be applied independently of the characteristics of the hybrid system. The approach is validated through simulations on two test microgrids and compared with results obtained using Neplan 360.

A Simulation Analysis for Assessing the Reliability of AC/DC Hybrid Microgrids - Part II: Port Area and Residential Area

Antonio Boni et al.

Summary: This study aims to evaluate the ability of two portions of a hybrid AC/DC MV/LV network to maintain operation in off-grid mode during the loss of the main AC grid, using a probabilistic approach to analyze microgrids in a residential area and a port zone. The study also assesses reliability indicators in different energy use cases.

A Simulation Analysis for Assessing the Reliability of AC/DC Hybrid Microgrids - Part I: Underground Station and Car Parking

Antonio Boni et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the ability of two portions of a hybrid AC/DC MV/LV network to maintain operation in off-grid mode during the loss of the main AC grid. By utilizing local generation plants, Energy Storage Systems (ESSs), and other flexible resources managed by suitable algorithms in different energy scenarios, the microgrids are able to ensure continuity of electricity service while operating in islanded mode. Specific indicators were defined and calculated to assess the network's performance.
