Analysis of Disordered Dynamics in Polymer Nanocomposite Dielectrics for the Realization of Fractional-Order Capacitor

Zaid Mohammad Shah et al.

Summary: The study analyzes the electrical properties of partially conductive graphene nanosheets (GNS) / P(VDF) polymer nanocomposites and demonstrates the ability of polymer composites with minimal conductivity to be used as dielectrics for fractional-order capacitors (FOC). The analysis includes impedance spectroscopy, XRD, and Raman spectroscopy to track the conductivity variation of GNS weight percentage in P(VDF) matrix. The deviation from ideal capacitive behavior is monitored using Cole-Cole model and electrical equivalent circuit data.

On the Gouy-Chapman-Stern model of the electrical double-layer structure with a generalized Boltzmann factor

Anis Allagui et al.

Summary: The behavior of the electrical double-layer (EDL) structure was evaluated by assuming small perturbations on top of its Boltzmann distribution of ion concentrations using the Tsallis nonextensive statistics framework. Analytical expressions and computational results for the differential capacitance of the EDL structure were derived, showing different shapes of capacitance curves depending on the values of parameter q.

Methods for the Determination of Valid Impedance Spectra in Non-stationary Electrochemical Systems: Concepts and Techniques of Practical Importance

Krisztina J. Szekeres et al.

Summary: Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) is a widely used technique for characterizing electrochemical systems, providing both measurement and analysis of impedance spectra. Valid EIS measurements in time-varying systems are challenging, as requirements must be met to ensure data validity. Time-dependent phenomena in non-stationary systems pose significant problems, with selected techniques and methodologies proposed in the literature to address these issues.

Revisiting the Time-Domain and Frequency-Domain Definitions of Capacitance

Anis Allagui et al.

Summary: Capacitance is a characteristic function of an electrical energy storage device that relates voltage and charge accumulation, with time and frequency dependencies. It is recommended to use the integral convolution definition in the time domain for accurate modeling and characterization of supercapacitors and batteries.

Possibility of information encoding/decoding using the memory effect in fractional-order capacitive devices

Anis Allagui et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that the discharge voltage pattern of a supercapacitor with fractional-order behavior is influenced by the past charging voltage profile. By utilizing the history-dependence of the device's dynamic behavior, information pre-coded in the charging waveform pattern can be uniquely retrieved, with an analytical model based on fractional calculus explaining the information storage mechanism. The intrinsic material memory effect could potentially lead to new methods for information storage and retrieval.
