Single Cell Mass Spectrometry With a Robotic Micromanipulation System for Cell Metabolite Analysis

Anqi Chen et al.

Summary: The increasing demand for unraveling cellular heterogeneity has led to the development of single cell metabolomics studies. However, current analytical methods are labor-intensive and lack accuracy and efficiency. In this study, an automated single cell mass spectrometry system (SCMS) was developed to improve the metabolic profiling of single cells by eliminating operator variability and increasing working efficiency. The performance of the system was validated through experiments on bladder cancer cells, highlighting its potential as a powerful tool for single cell metabolomics studies.

High content drug screening of primary cardiomyocytes based on microfluidics and real-time ultra-large-scale high-resolution imaging

Liang Huang et al.

Summary: Leveraging advances in microfluidics and imaging technology, a new paradigm of large-scale, high-content drug screening solutions for rapid biological processes, like cardiotoxicity, has been established. The designed microfluidic chips enable simultaneous assay of 10 types of drugs each with 5 concentrations, along with high-resolution imaging system for real-time video rate imaging. The HCS system demonstrated unparalleled capability in revealing spatiotemporal patterns of cardiomyocyte imaging and validating cardiotoxicity of certain molecules.

A microfluidic device enabling deterministic single cell trapping and release

Huichao Chai et al.

Summary: In this paper, a novel microfluidic device with high-efficiency cell trapping and deterministic release is presented. The device includes capillary valves that can open in a predefined pattern to sequentially trap incoming cells into separate sites. Experiments using MCF-7 cells demonstrated the capability of the device for deterministic single cell trapping and release, showing promise as a useful platform for single cell analysis.
