RF Impairment Model-Based IoT Physical-Layer Identification for Enhanced Domain Generalization

Sekhar Rajendran et al.

Summary: For small, inexpensive, and power-constrained IoT devices, Radiofrequency fingerprinting (RF-fingerprinting) has emerged as a cost-effective security solution. However, the robustness and permanence of RF-fingerprints (RFFs) have been major challenges. This paper presents a solution to overcome these challenges by performing a reverse analysis of a typical RFIC and creating a parametric RF-impairment distribution model. This model is used to tailor a knowledge-based parametric signal processing and conditioning method, reducing dimensionality of data and simplifying the classifier needed for RF-fingerprinting.

WiSig: A Large-Scale WiFi Signal Dataset for Receiver and Channel Agnostic RF Fingerprinting

Samer Hanna et al.

Summary: RF fingerprinting leverages circuit-level variability of transmitters to identify them using signals they send. However, the signals used for identification are impacted by wireless channel and receiver circuitry, creating additional impairments that can confuse transmitter identification. This paper presents WiSig, a large-scale WiFi dataset, for developing and evaluating transmitter fingerprinting methods that are agnostic to channel and receiver.

Deep Subdomain Adaptation Network for Image Classification

Yongchun Zhu et al.

Summary: This study introduces a deep subdomain adaptation network (DSAN) that aligns relevant subdomain distributions across different domains based on the local maximum mean discrepancy (LMMD). DSAN is simple but effective, does not require adversarial training, and converges quickly. It can be easily integrated into feedforward network models to achieve efficient adaptation via backpropagation.

Radio Frequency Fingerprint Identification for Narrowband Systems, Modelling and Classification

Junqing Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper systematically models impairments of transmitter and receiver in narrowband systems and proposes a convolutional neural network-based RFFI protocol, demonstrating high accuracy in classifying devices with various impairments. Additionally, recommendations for designing a robust RFFI protocol are made based on experimental and simulation results, emphasizing the importance of compensating carrier frequency offset and calibrating IQ imbalances of receivers.

Carrier Leakage Estimation Method for Cross-Receiver Specific Emitter Identification

Mengkai Shi et al.

Summary: SEI technology identifies transmitting devices using emitter features, but is highly affected by receiver distortions, limiting its universality. A new method combining carrier leakage and filter distortion estimation effectively reduces the impact of receiver distortions, with performance comparable to traditional methods.
