A gas flow velocity sensor fabricated with femtosecond laser using 4 μm ultra-thin glass sheet

Yansheng Hao et al.

Summary: In this study, a gas flow sensor enabled by a 4 μm ultra-thin glass sheet was proposed for high-integration applications in industry and medicine/health. The sensor, fabricated using femtosecond laser processing, can measure gas flow velocity by detecting the displacement of the ultra-thin glass sheet, with a sensitivity of 8.21 mV m s(-1) and a wide range of 4 m s(-1) to 36 m s(-1). Additionally, changing the geometric parameters of the sensor can adjust its sensitivity and dynamic range.

Separation and Enrichment of Yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae by Shape Using Viscoelastic Microfluidics

Ping Liu et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated a shape-based separation and enrichment method for Saccharomyces cerevisiae using a combination of viscoelastic and Newtonian fluids in a microchannel, showing that the lateral position of yeast cells with varying morphologies depends on the major axis of the cells. The effects of sheath and sample flow rate, PEO concentration, and channel length on the performance of the viscoelastic microfluidic device for yeast enrichment and separation by shape were also investigated, along with the separation efficiency, cell extraction yield, and cell viability after sorting operations.

Hydrodynamic particle focusing enhanced by femtosecond laser deep grooving at low Reynolds numbers

Tianlong Zhang et al.

Summary: A novel hydrodynamic focusing method using femtosecond laser-engraved microstructures on a glass substrate was proposed to achieve particle focusing. Experimental results showed successful focusing of polystyrene particles and live cells at low Reynolds numbers, suitable for continuous focusing of cells of different sizes. Integration with on-chip detection components is expected for various biological and biomedical applications.

Fabrication of ultra-thin glass sheet by weight-controlled load-assisted precise thermal stretching

Yapeng Yuan et al.

Summary: This paper presents an efficient and convenient method for fabricating ultra-thin glass sheets by utilizing weight-controlled load-assisted thermal stretching, resulting in the world's thinnest glass sheet. Experimental results demonstrate the potential advantage of using these ultra-thin glass sheets in indicator applications for micro-systems, with higher sensitivity compared to existing devices.
