Mutually Protected Coherent P2MP Networks Enabled by Frequency Comb and Injection Locking

This article proposes a novel network protection scheme that achieves mutual protection between adjacent P2MP coherent networks without complex switching or redundant devices. High system availability and fast service restoration are achieved by using coherent transceivers with remotely delivered optical carriers that are injection locked to an optical frequency comb. The functionality and performance of the system have been verified experimentally, and the mutual protection design has also been verified using commercially available coherent optics. The full-duplex design that features simultaneous bidirectional transmission using the same wavelength has also been tested in the coherent P2MP system.
