Performance Simulation of the Payload IMR and MICAP Onboard the Chinese Ocean Salinity Satellite

Yan Li et al.

Summary: The Chinese Ocean Salinity Satellite is equipped with two payloads, IMR and MICAP, aiming at global sea surface salinity mapping. The simulations show that IMR has better spatial resolution while MICAP excels in radiometric resolution. Combining all available measurements from two payloads improves the accuracy of SSS retrieval significantly.

Measurement of SST and SSS Using Frequencies in the Range 0.3-2.0 GHz

David M. Le Vine et al.

Summary: Wide bandwidth radiometer systems can measure a wide range of frequencies and are used to detect parameters related to climate change, such as ice sheet thickness, temperature, and salinity. In current sensor systems, sea surface temperature is usually obtained as an ancillary parameter from independent sources. However, measurements at specific frequencies can improve the accuracy of retrieving sea surface temperature and salinity.

Microwave Radiometry at Frequencies From 500 to 1400 MHz: An Emerging Technology for Earth Observations

Joel T. Johnson et al.

Summary: Microwave radiometry plays a crucial role in Earth observation, with brightness temperature measurements from 500-1400 MHz showing potential to enhance sensing depth, improve sea salinity perception, and increase sensitivity to soil moisture. However, challenges such as radio-frequency interference and spectrum limitations need to be addressed.
