Intraosseous rhabdomyosarcoma of the maxilla with TFCP2 fusion: A rare aggressive subtype with predilection for the gnathic bones

John Lennon Silva Cunha et al.

Summary: This article reports a rare case of intraosseous RMS in the maxilla, which presents as a large osteolytic lesion and is often misdiagnosed clinically. Histopathology and immunohistochemistry can aid in the correct diagnosis, highlighting the importance of early surgical excision and long-term follow-up.

Case report: EWSR1-TFCP2 in an adolescent represents an extremely rare and aggressive form of intraosseous spindle cell rhabdomyosarcomas

Agnesa. V. V. Panferova et al.

Summary: The World Health Organization has classified rhabdomyosarcomas into different subgroups based on their morphology. One rare subgroup is characterized by epithelioid and spindle cell morphology, intraosseous growth, and specific genetic aberrations. Correct diagnosis of these tumors is challenging due to their rarity. This study presents a clinical case of intraosseous spindle cell rhabdomyosarcoma with EWSR1::TFCP2 fusion gene expression, which has not been reported before. The tumor was highly aggressive and resistant to various treatments, leading to a fatal outcome.

Epithelioid and Spindle Cell Rhabdomyosarcoma of the Oral Mucosa with FUS Rearrangement

Adam R. Ochsner et al.

Summary: The spectrum of rhabdomyosarcomas is expanding with the identification of newer and novel subtypes, including the newly characterized FUS gene rearranged epithelioid and spindle cell rhabdomyosarcoma. This uncommon and aggressive entity displays a predilection for head and neck sites. Familiarity with its features helps in avoiding diagnostic pitfalls.
