Effect of Cardiac Rehabilitation on Glomerular Filtration Rate Using Serum Cystatin C Concentration in Patients With Cardiovascular Disease and Renal Dysfunction

Tomoaki Hama et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of cardiac rehabilitation (CR) on renal function in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). The results showed that CR had a greater impact on improving renal function in patients with worse renal dysfunction. This suggests that a CR program could be beneficial for patients with severe renal dysfunction.

Effect of Structured, Moderate Exercise on Kidney Function Decline in Sedentary Older Adults An Ancillary Analysis of the LIFE Study Randomized Clinical Trial

Michael G. Shlipak et al.

Summary: This ancillary analysis of a randomized clinical trial showed that a physical activity and exercise intervention can slow down the decline in estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR (CysC)) among sedentary older adults. This suggests that targeted recommendation of physical activity and moderate-intensity exercise should be considered as a treatment to slow decline in eGFR (CysC) in older adults.

Summary: This study found that participation in outpatient cardiac rehabilitation can reduce the decline in renal function and hospital readmission rates among patients with heart disease aged 75 years and above.
