Health-related quality of life among older adults who experienced the Pohang earthquake in South Korea: A cross-sectional survey

Eun-Mi Kim et al.

Summary: This study examined the health-related quality of life (HRQOL) and its associated factors among older adults who had experienced the Pohang earthquake in South Korea. The results showed that lower depression, higher community resilience, social support, and disaster preparedness were associated with increased HRQOL. These findings suggest that improving these factors can promote the well-being of older adults who have experienced earthquakes.

Anticipatory care planning for community-dwelling older adults at risk of functional decline: a feasibility cluster randomized controlled trial

Kevin Brazil et al.

Summary: This study determines the feasibility of implementing an Anticipatory Care Planning (ACP) intervention in primary care settings and shows positive outcomes, including a reduction in healthcare costs and improvement in social support. Further research is needed to determine the long-term effects and cost-effectiveness of this intervention.

A prognostic model predicted deterioration in health-related quality of life in older patients with multimorbidity and polypharmacy

Ana I. Gonzalez-Gonzalez et al.

Summary: The study developed and validated a prognostic model to predict deterioration in health-related quality of life in older general practice patients with chronic conditions. The model, validated internally and by internal-external cross-validation, showed good discrimination, calibration, and generalizability. Variables related to chronic conditions, inappropriate medication, functional status, well-being, and HRQoL were identified as strong predictors of deterioration in HRQoL.

Dizziness and health-related quality of life among older adults in an urban population: a cross-sectional study

Ellen Lindell et al.

Summary: The study found that over half of older adults reported problems with dizziness, which was negatively associated with HRQL, especially in the physical domains of SF-36, even after adjusting for comorbidities. Dizziness was also related to poorer self-rated health, tiredness, and comorbidity. However, there was no difference in sense of coherence (SOC) between those experiencing dizziness and those who were not.

How is quality of life defined and assessed in published research?

Daniel S. J. Costa et al.

Summary: This study found significant heterogeneity in the definition and operationalization of (HR)QOL in quality of life research, both between and within studies. This limits the meaningful interpretation of (HR)QOL scores and complicates literature searches. Investigators should clearly define constructs and select instruments aligned with those definitions.

A Contextual Analysis and Logic Model for Integrated Care for Frail Older Adults Living at Home: The INSPIRE Project

Olivia Yip et al.

Summary: This study aimed to analyze the contextual factors, develop a logic model, and select preliminary implementation strategies for an integrated care model in information and advice centers for older adults in Canton Basel-Landschaft, Switzerland. The results identified contextual factors, core components of the care model, and proposed implementation strategies to facilitate model adoption. Ultimately, contextual understanding and a clear logic model should enhance the potential for successful implementation of the integrated care model.
