Contributions of the Large-Scale Environment to the Typhoon Genesis of Faxai (2019)

Hironori Fudeyasu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the atmospheric and oceanic contributions to the genesis of Typhoon Faxai in 2019. The statistical analysis revealed that the tropical disturbance that developed into Faxai was attributed to easterly waves (EWs). The study also found that the high Grid-EW scores in the lower-troposphere environment were favorable for vortex formation but were also associated with the enhancement of vertical wind shear and subsequent suppression of Faxai's development. The research highlights the importance of monitoring environmental factors such as EW and vertical wind shear for disaster prevention.

Venus night-side photometry with cleaned Akatsuki/IR2 data: Aerosol properties and variations of carbon monoxide

Takehiko Satoh et al.

Summary: A novel method called Restoration by Simple Subtraction (RSS) was developed to clean and restore contaminated Akatsuki/IR2 images, resulting in photometric quality night-side data. The study identified exchanges between different mode aerosols in the Venus atmosphere and introduced a new coordinate system M3L to interpret the data.
