Scaling and blockage risk in geothermal reinjection wellbore: Experiment assessment and model prediction based on scaling deposition kinetics

Liang Zhang et al.

Summary: Wellbore scaling affects geothermal reinjection efficiency, so accurately predicting scaling risk and taking effective measures is important. This study conducted scaling experiments using geothermal water from the Xining Basin in China, and established an improved prediction model for scale layer thickness in the reinjection wellbore. The results showed that the scaling tendency in a real reinjection wellbore is significantly reduced due to the small temperature rise.

Geochemistry of formation waters and crude oils in the Shulu Sag, Bohai Bay Basin, NE-China, to assess quality and accumulation of hydrocarbons

Chuan Cai et al.

Summary: Geochemical fingerprinting of formation waters and hydrocarbons can be used to track the migration, accumulation, and preservation of hydrocarbons. The study from the Shulu Sag in NE-China shows that water chemistry significantly affects oil quality and accumulation, with different geochemical groups of formation waters representing different hydrodynamic environments and hydrocarbon preservation conditions. The corresponding relationship between oil quality and associated water type provides important insights for oil and gas exploration.

Analysis of the scaling mechanism and characteristics of a double-defects screen based on data from Hafaya oilfield

Fucheng Deng et al.

Summary: This study analyzed screen scaling under different sizes, quantities, and distribution modes of corrosion defects using CFD technology. The results showed that the size factor had the greatest influence on scaling, while velocity and temperature also had significant effects. The research can provide safe operating guidelines to reduce scaling.

Distribution Characteristics and Formation Mechanisms of Highly Mineralized Groundwater in the Hetao Plain, Inner Mongolia

Qiuyao Dong et al.

Summary: The Hetao Plain, as the largest artesian irrigation area in northern China, plays an important role in China's grain production. However, the region is facing challenges such as soil salinization and desertification due to the presence of highly mineralized groundwater. This study investigates the spatial evolution characteristics and formation mechanisms of highly mineralized groundwater using traditional hydro-geochemical methods.

Coupled Flow/Geomechanics Modeling of Interfracture Water Injection To Enhance Oil Recovery in Tight Reservoirs

Yongzan Liu et al.

Summary: Unconventional tight reservoirs with low permeability and low porosity have been challenging to develop, but techniques such as hydraulic fracturing and water injection can improve hydrocarbon recovery. This study analyzes the feasibility and efficiency of interfracture water injection in enhancing oil recovery in tight oil reservoirs through a coupled flow/geomechanics model. Results show that interfracture water injection can be a promising EOR technique for tight oil reservoirs.

Digestate Application on Two Different Soils: Agricultural Benefit and Risk

Maria Rosaria Panuccio et al.

Summary: The study found that neutral soil and alkaline soil responded differently to solid and liquid fractions of digestate, depending mainly on soil characteristics. Solid fraction was more effective in improving soil quality and microbial biomass carbon, and had more agricultural and environmental advantages than liquid fraction.

Coupled geochemical and compositional wellbore simulators: A case study on scaling tendencies under water evaporation and CO2 dissolution

Fernando M. C. Coelho et al.

Summary: Inorganic deposits are a major cause of production decline in the Oil & Gas Industry, with evaporation playing a significant role in mineral precipitation for both oil wells and gas condensate wells. Dilution water injection is proposed as an alternative solution for preventing precipitation, particularly in cases of low water cuts. The study demonstrates that UTWELL can effectively match results from commercial simulators while offering advantages in aqueous density calculation and mineral precipitation modeling.
