The redox chemistry of phosphate complexed green rusts: Limited oxidative transformation and phosphate release

Li-Zhi Huang et al.

Summary: The reductive dissolution of ferric (hydr)oxide-phosphate complex is believed to be responsible for P release under anoxic conditions. Our results demonstrate that the increased redox potential introduced by oxidants leads to the release of P from the GR-P complex, which deepens our understanding of the relationship between redox potential and the P fixation by iron-bearing minerals.

Enhanced phosphorus mobility in a calcareous soil with organic amendments additions: Insights from a long term study with equal phosphorus input

Shuai Zhang et al.

Summary: The agricultural practice of replacing chemical fertilizers with organic amendments may have consequences for phosphorus loss to the environment. A ten-year field trial in calcareous soil showed that the addition of manure and/or straw significantly mobilized phosphorus in the soil profile and decreased the soil's maximum phosphorus sorption capacity.

Effect of Calcium Cyanamide on Soil Fungal Community in Successive Tea-Cuttings Nursery

Qinli Qiu et al.

Summary: The application of calcium cyanamide can significantly increase soil pH, reduce the accumulation of harmful substances, improve soil quality, decrease pathogenic fungi, and promote the growth of tea seedlings. However, under calcium cyanamide treatment, the fungal diversity in the soil is lower with fewer plant pathogens present.

Impacts of application of calcium cyanamide and the consequent increase in soil pH on N2O emissions and soil bacterial community compositions

Kazuki Suzuki et al.

Summary: Calcium cyanamide application suppresses N2O emissions, while increasing soil pH affects the composition and diversity of soil bacterial communities. The shift in soil bacterial community composition can predict the presence of nitrification and denitrification genes in soil.

Enhanced topsoil P leaching in a short term flooded calcareous soil with combined straw and ammonium nitrogen incorporation

Shuai Zhang et al.

Summary: SI promotes the transformation of Ca-P to Fe/Al-P in soil while SN treatment significantly decreases topsoil Fe/Al-P content and increases P leaching. In contrast, SH treatment enhances Fe/Al-P accumulation and reduces P leaching, showing high P mobility in SN treatment and inhibition of P leaching in SH treatment due to Fe(III) reduction and acidification processes.

Soil acidification enhances the mobilization of phosphorus under anoxic conditions in an agricultural soil: Investigating the potential for loss of phosphorus to water and the associated environmental risk

Shuai Zhang et al.

Summary: This study found that reducing conditions in highly acidic soil lead to increased dissolution of P due to Fe reduction and Mn dissolution. The decrease of Fe-P fraction and Ferrihydrite-Pads, as well as the correlation between dissolved P and Fe2+, support the conclusion of redox-induced P mobilization under anoxic conditions in highly acidic soils.

Nitrogen loss through denitrification, anammox and Feammox in a paddy soil

Bangjing Ding et al.

Summary: The study investigated the distribution of nitrogen loss pathways in different layers of paddy soil in southeastern China, revealing differences in the activities of anammox and Feammox in different soil layers. Denitrification was identified as the main nitrogen loss pathway in the surface soil, while Feammox became significant in the 20-40 cm depth.
