Plant-Specific AtS40.4 Acts as a Negative Regulator in Abscisic Acid Signaling During Seed Germination and Seedling Growth in Arabidopsis

Xiao-Pu Shi et al.

Summary: The plant-specific protein AtS40.4 was found to play a negative regulatory role in ABA signaling during seed germination and early seedling growth in Arabidopsis. Its expression is promoted by ABA, it is localized in both the nucleus and cytoplasm, and it is involved in ABRE-dependent ABA signaling.

Knockout of the entire family of AITR genes in Arabidopsis leads to enhanced drought and salinity tolerance without fitness costs

Siyu Chen et al.

Summary: Editing AITR genes using CRISPR/Cas9 enhances plant stress tolerance without fitness costs. Knocking out AITR family genes improves plant resilience to abiotic stresses, with sextuple mutants showing normal growth and response to pathogens. AITRs may be targeted for molecular breeding to enhance stress tolerance in various plants, including crops.

Precision Mapping of a Maize MAGIC Population Identified a Candidate Gene for the Senescence-Associated Physiological Traits

Marlon Caicedo et al.

Summary: This study identified 36 candidate genes associated with maize senescence through genome-wide association studies, with 11 genes implicated in processes related to proteolysis, sugar transport, and sink activity. One candidate gene, Zm00001d043586, significantly influences chlorophyll degradation rate, a key determinant of senescence in maize. These findings contribute to a better understanding of the genetic basis of senescence in maize and provide potential molecular markers for marker assisted selection in line development.

Involvement of ABA Responsive SVB Genes in the Regulation of Trichome Formation in Arabidopsis

Saddam Hussain et al.

Summary: Two abscisic acid responsive genes, SVB and SVB2, are identified as regulators of trichome formation in Arabidopsis. Their expression is increased in response to ABA treatment and they function redundantly in regulating trichome formation, as shown by the greatly reduced trichome numbers in the double mutants.

Five OsS40 Family Members Are Identified as Senescence-Related Genes in Rice by Reverse Genetics Approach

Habiba et al.

Summary: Thirteen members of OsS40 family in Oryza sativa were knocked out using CRISPR/Cas9 technology, resulting in stay-green phenotype and altered grain size and weight. The OsS40 genes are involved in coordinated regulation of other family members, SWEET member genes, and senescence-related gene expression.
