Seeding rate effects on forge productivity and nutritive value of sorghum

Aklilu Mekasha et al.

Summary: Increasing seeding rates can significantly reduce stalk thickness and fiber content, while increasing in-vitro organic matter digestibility concentration. Late-maturing varieties accumulate more dry matter, while early-maturing varieties have higher protein and digestibility with lower fiber content.

Enhancing biogas production from livestock manure in solid-state anaerobic digestion by sorghum-vinegar residues

Jiaxing Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the use of sorghum vinegar residue to enhance methane production from livestock manures during solid-state anaerobic digestion. The results showed that co-digestion of vinegar residue effectively diluted inhibitory substances, improved digester stability, and increased methane production. Cattle manure exhibited the highest increase, possibly due to synergistic effects with vinegar residue.

Planting Date and Different N-Fertilization Rates Differently Modulate Agronomic and Economic Traits of a Sicilian Onion Landrace and of a Commercial Variety

Giuseppe Di Miceli et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the agronomic response of two onion varieties in Sicily to different planting dates and nitrogen fertilization rates, and also conducted an economic analysis. The results showed that higher nitrogen doses led to higher yields and greater net benefits. The traditional planting date was found to be the best choice for achieving optimum agronomic response.

Is the Anaerobic Digestion (AD) sustainable from the energy point of view?

Carlos E. Gomez-Camacho et al.

Summary: This article applies the Energy Sustainability Analysis (ESA) to the Anaerobic Digestion (AD) process with different feedstocks, emphasizing the importance of pre-digestion and post-digestion phases for overall energy sustainability. It also highlights the essential role of sufficient land availability for spreading digestate in ensuring the sustainability of AD technology when using agricultural wastes and energy crops as feed.

M. J. Fernandez-Rodriguez et al.

Summary: This study investigated the production of green energy from spent livestock bedding, showing that co-digestion of goat straw bedding and whey can produce biochemical methane potential. Results indicated a decrease in maximum methane production rate and considerable increases in hydrolysis kinetic constants with increased whey concentration.

Effect of digestate from anaerobic digestion on Sorghum bicolor L. production and circular economy

Nikola Rakascan et al.

Summary: The research demonstrated that application of 50 t ha(-1) digestate from anaerobic digestion process had a significant positive impact on the growth and yield of sorghum in field experiments in the Banat region, particularly on fertile chernozem soil. The digestate not only increased the number of leaves and height of sorghum plants, but also improved yield significantly.

Mobilizing sorghum genetic diversity: Biochemical and histological-assisted design of a stem ideotype for biomethane production

Helene Laurence Thomas et al.

Summary: This study assessed the genetic diversity of Sorghum bicolor ssp bicolor stems to maximize genetic gains for biogas production and define a biogas stem ideotype. High broad sense heritability and moderate genetic variability were detected for stem biogas potential, ensuring significant genetic gains in the future. Genetic correlations and analyses identified soluble sugar content as the main driver of biogas potential genetic variability.

Adapting sorghum sowing date and genotype maturity to seasonal rainfall variation in a temperate region

Ana J. P. Carcedo et al.

Summary: The study indicates that using different combinations of sowing dates and genotype maturity in response to various water stress patterns can effectively increase sorghum yields. In the northern and central regions, sowing date should be chosen based on seasonal water stress patterns, while in the southern region, early sowings are recommended regardless of the environmental types.
