Insights into the size effect of ZnCr2O4 spinel oxide in composite catalysts for conversion of syngas to aromatics

Yi Fu et al.

Summary: In this study, the size effect of an oxide component in composite catalysts for the conversion of syngas to aromatics was investigated. It was found that decreasing the crystal size of ZnCr2O4 oxide in the composite catalysts significantly improved CO conversion, aromatics selectivity, and space-time yield of aromatics. The understanding of the size-performance relationship enabled the design of a ZnCr2O4-400/H-ZSM-5 composite catalyst with high CO conversion (32.6%) and aromatics selectivity (76%), achieving a high space-time yield of aromatics (4.79 mmol gcat(-1) h(-1)).

Syngas to light olefins over ZnAlOx and high-silica CHA prepared by boron-assisted hydrothermal synthesis

Li Ren et al.

Summary: In this study, high-silica CHA zeolites with Si/Al ratios ranging from 20 to infinity were successfully prepared via a boron-assisted hydrothermal synthesis method. The influence of Si/Al ratio on the acidity and textural properties of boron-containing CHA (BAl-CHA) was systematically studied, revealing that BAl-CHA catalyst with Si/Al ratio over 300 achieved 85.1% selectivity of light olefins. The research also highlighted the roles of acidity, framework boron, and various reaction parameters in determining the olefin selectivity and catalyst stability.

Recent advances on syngas conversion targeting light olefins

Shangqing Zhao et al.

Summary: This review summarizes the recent advances in the development of advanced catalysts for the direct conversion of syngas to light olefins. The catalytic performances and selectivity of these catalysts are compared and discussed in detail. It is found that by optimizing the composition and structure of the catalysts, selectivity far exceeding the theoretical limit can be achieved, providing new insights for the development of more efficient catalysts for syngas transformation.

Distance for Communication between Metal and Acid Sites for Syngas Conversion

Yubing Li et al.

Summary: In this study, the influence of distance between metal and acid sites on the effectiveness of reactions in a methanol-mediated syngas conversion system was evaluated. The distance requirements depend on the diffusivity of reaction intermediates and the formation mechanism of products. In the syngas to aromatics reaction, the intimate contact of metal and acid sites is necessary to eliminate surface hydrogen species.

Synthesis of hierarchical SAPO-34 to improve the catalytic performance of bifunctional catalysts for syngas-to-olefins reactions

Mengheng Wang et al.

Summary: The integration of methanol synthesis and methanol-to-olefins conversion in a bifunctional process provides a new synthetic strategy for lower olefins. Designing matchable zeolite components remains challenging, but a hierarchical SAPO-34 zeolite with a sandglass-like structure shows promise in enhancing selectivity and stability in syngas conversion. High-pressure hydrogen and moderate density of acid sites play crucial roles in achieving high C-2-C-4(=) selectivity in the conversion process.

Tuning direct CO hydrogenation reaction over Fe-Mn bimetallic catalysts toward light olefins: Effects of Mn promotion

Zixu Yang et al.

Summary: Highly dispersed FeMn bimetallic nanoparticles prepared by a low-temperature co-precipitation method were used for direct CO hydrogenation to produce light olefins. The strong interaction between Fe and Mn stabilized the Fe1-xMnxO phase during activation, while Mn decreased the surface energy of nanocrystals and reduced agglomeration, resulting in smaller particle sizes of Mn-promoted catalysts.

Direct Conversion of Syngas to Light Olefins over a ZnCrOx + H-SSZ-13 Bifunctional Catalyst

Yuxuan Huang et al.

Summary: A ZnCrOx + H-SSZ-13 bifunctional catalyst has been developed with adequate acidic strength, leading to a high percentage of light olefins in hydrocarbons during the STO reaction. The role of H2 and CO in affecting the selectivity towards paraffins was found to be more dominant than traditional hydrogen transfer reactions.

Oxide-Zeolite-Based Composite Catalyst Concept That Enables Syngas Chemistry beyond Fischer-Tropsch Synthesis

Xiulian Pan et al.

Summary: The OXZEO catalyst concept enables high selectivity in the direct conversion of syngas to light olefins and ethylene, surpassing the theoretical limits of conventional FTS. It also allows the synthesis of gasoline-range isoparaffins and aromatic compounds. This concept demonstrates versatility and may serve as a technology platform for utilizing carbon resources to produce chemicals and fuels.

Synergistic Catalysis of Al and Zn Sites of Spinel ZnAl2O4 Catalyst for CO Hydrogenation to Methanol and Dimethyl Ether

Aiai Ye et al.

Summary: The study revealed that CO and H-2 activation occurs at the Al and Zn sites of the ZnAl2O4 catalyst, forming active bidentate formate species and reversibly adsorbed hydrogen species. The hydrogenation of resulting bidentate formate species at the Al site is the rate-controlling step with a barrier of 83.8 kJ/mol. These results deepen the understanding of the synergistic catalysis of Al and Zn sites in ZnAl2O4 catalyst and the rate-controlling step in CO hydrogenation to methanol/dimethyl ether.

Syngas to light olefin synthesis over La doped ZnxAlyOz composite and SAPO-34 hybrid catalysts

G. Raveendra et al.

Summary: The preparation of La-doped ZnxAlyOz catalysts with various precipitating agents and pH values significantly affects the catalytic performance, with NH4OH at pH 7 showing the best activity and selectivity. Characterization results reveal the formation of ZnAl2O4 and amorphous ZnO, Al2O3 with suitable acidic and basic sites contributing to the good catalytic performance. In situ DRIFT studies suggest that intermediates *HCOO and *OCH3 are key during the hydrogenation of CO to methanol over these catalysts.
