Porous palladium phosphide nanotubes for formic acid electrooxidation

Tian-Jiao Wang et al.

Summary: Developing an efficient catalyst for formic acid electrocatalytic oxidation reaction (FAEOR) is crucial for accelerating the commercial application of direct formic acid fuel cells (DFAFC). In this study, palladium phosphide (PdxPy) porous nanotubes (PNTs) with different phosphide content were successfully prepared through a self-template reduction method and phosphating treatment. The Pd3P PNTs with optimized phosphide content exhibited outstanding electroactivity and stability for FAEOR, mainly due to the strong electronic effect between Pd and P, which promoted the direct pathway of FAEOR and inhibited the occurrence of formic acid decomposition reaction. With its facile synthesis, excellent electroactivity, high stability, and unique selectivity, Pd3P PNTs have the potential to be an efficient anode electrocatalyst for DFAFC.

Tuning the dual-active sites of ZIF-67 derived porous nanomaterials for boosting oxygen catalysis and rechargeable Zn-air batteries

Zeyi Zhang et al.

Summary: The rational control of the active site in metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) derived nanomaterials is essential for building efficient bifunctional oxygen reduction/evolution reaction (ORR/OER) catalysts. By designing a Co3O4-Co heterostructure embedded in Co, N co-doped carbon polyhedra derived from ZIF-67 and cobalt nanocrystals, a dual-active site is realized, leading to excellent electrocatalytic activity. The theory calculation results suggest that charge redistribution of Co in the Co-N-x site is attributed to the optimized rate-determining step of desorption of intermediates in ORR and OER.
