Catalytic hydroconversion of two lignin-related model compounds over Ni/CeO2

Ji Zhao et al.

Summary: Ni/CeO2 catalyst with medium-strong acidity was prepared using in-situ carbon templating and reduction with H2. It showed excellent activity in the conversion of lignin-related model compounds, producing cyclohexane and methylcyclohexane. Moreover, the catalyst exhibited good reusability.

Oxygen deficient Ce doped CO supported on alumina catalyst for low-temperature CO oxidation in presence of H2O and SO2

Jyoti Waikar et al.

Summary: Ce-doped Co/Al2O3 catalyst exhibited the highest CO oxidation activity at low temperature, which was attributed to the increased reactive oxygen and oxygen vacancies caused by Ce doping. Ce modification prevented the generation of cobalt aluminate phase and promoted the production of Co3O4 active phase.

Multiscale evaluation of the efficiently separation of phenols using a designed cationic functionalized ionic liquid based on Bronsted/Lewis coordination

Dongmei Xu et al.

Summary: The study successfully developed a simple and easy prepared carboxyl functionalized ionic liquid for effective separation of phenolic compounds from oil mixtures. The extraction efficiency was measured under different conditions and showed good results for m-cresol, o-cresol, p-cresol, and phenol, with the ionic liquid being reusable after experimentation.

Highly active and efficient Cu-based hydrotalcite-like structured materials as reusable heterogeneous catalysts used for transcarbonation reaction

Praveen Kumar et al.

Summary: A series of Cu-Al hydrotalcite-like compounds were prepared and investigated as catalysts for the transcarbonation of glycerol with dimethyl carbonate. The Cu/Al molar ratio significantly influenced glycerol conversion and glycerol carbonate yield. Among the synthesized catalysts, the Copper-Aluminum (3Cu-Al@500) catalyst exhibited excellent catalytic activity.

Catalytic upgrading of coal tar coupling with methanol using model compound over hierarchal ZSM-5 for increasing light aromatic production under atmosphere pressure

Yue-lun Wang et al.

Summary: A new route for upgrading coal tar to aromatics using ZSM-5 zeolite as catalyst was investigated, with methanol promoting the production of aromatics and inhibiting coke formation. Increasing the methanol/cresol molar ratio led to higher aromatic hydrocarbons yield, produced through providing methyl groups instead of active hydrogen from methanol. Alkylation of methylbenzene with methanol resulted in toluene, xylene, and trimethylbenzene as main products due to steric hindrance of larger molecules.

Hua-Shuai Gao et al.

Summary: The alkylation of phenols using Ni/Fe2O3 as the catalyst and CH3OH as methylating agent resulted in the detection of o-xylenols with a total yield of 99% under optimized conditions. Mesitol and durenol were obtained as value-added chemicals from crude phenols extracted from low-temperature coal tar, and their structures were confirmed through multiple analyses.

Selective Cleavage of the Diphenyl Ether C-O Bond over a Ni Catalyst Supported on AC with Different Pore Structures and Hydrophilicities

Jin-Xuan Xie et al.

Summary: Selective cleavage of C-O bonds in diphenyl ether (DPE), a lignin-derived 4-O-5 linkage, is a challenging topic and of great significance to produce value-added aromatic products for sustainable future. Activated carbon (AC) with different pore structures has different catalytic effects on the reaction. Ni catalysts supported on AC with higher specific surface area and stronger hydrophilicity showed higher catalytic activity in the hydrogenolysis and hydrolysis of DPE.
