Study on demulsifier crude oil interactions at oil-water interface for crude oil dehydration

Zuoli Li et al.

Summary: The stabilization mechanisms of water-in-oil emulsions have been well studied, with a focus on understanding the dehydration process using demulsifiers. It was found that the addition of a random biopolymer demulsifier, butyl acrylate/2-(dimethylamino) ethyl acrylate (P1), achieved the highest water removal percentage and shortest coalescence time. The research also observed that the interfacial film collapsed easily upon compression with the administration of the very efficient demulsifier P1, indicating the importance of coalescence behavior in dehydration.

RIGOROUS DYNAMIC SIMULATION OF A DEHYDRATION AND DESALTING CRUDE OIL UNIT USING ASPEN HYSYS

C. Sotelo et al.

Summary: The article introduces a rigorous dynamic simulation-based procedure of a complete real dehydration and desalting process using Aspen HYSYS. Different equipment is carefully designed based on literature review, and a specially tailored procedure is proposed to estimate water and salt contents, with the accuracy of the simulation validated by comparing main flows and chemical contents with actual data.
