Atomic-Level Platinum Filling into Ni-Vacancies of Dual-Deficient NiO for Boosting Electrocatalytic Hydrogen Evolution

Yaotian Yan et al.

Summary: A strategy is proposed to enhance the activity of NiO catalysts by filling Ni-vacancy sites. This can be achieved by using Ar plasma and oxygen vacancies. The filled Pt atoms increase crystal stability and tune the electronic structure. Experimental results show that the Pt-filled D-NiO-Pt electrode exhibits superior mass activity and long-term stability.

Summary: The study investigates the performance of nickel-substituted perovskite Ba0.5Sr0.5Co0.8Fe0.2NixO3-δ as an OER catalyst, with BSCFN20 showing the best OER activity with low overpotential and Tafel slope. In water splitting experiments, using BSCFN20 as the anode and Pt/C as the cathode can achieve 50 mA cm(-2) with a low voltage, and BSCFN20||Pt/C remains stable for a long period, surpassing the state-of-the-art RuO2||Pt/C counterpart.

Activity and Stability of Oxides During Oxygen Evolution Reaction---From Mechanistic Controversies Toward Relevant Electrocatalytic Descriptors

Aleksandar R. Zeradjanin et al.

Summary: Developing a roadmap for future renewable energy requires technological advancement of devices like electrolyzers and fuel cells, which relies on a deep understanding of interfacial energy conversion processes and electrocatalytic activity. Particularly challenging is the oxygen evolution reaction, which demands long-term high activity from electrocatalysts and electrode support materials. Understanding the reliability of reported activity and stability trends, linking activity and stability, and determining the importance of this relationship are vital in building a comprehensive understanding of anodic oxygen evolution.

A fast micro-nano liquid layer induced construction of scaled-up oxyhydroxide based electrocatalysts for alkaline water splitting

Yaotian Yan et al.

Summary: Electrocatalysis is crucial for the development of the hydrogen economy, and this study introduces a fast micro-nano liquid layer induced construction (MLC) strategy for synthesizing nanostructured electrocatalysts. The research shows that modulation of binary cations can improve charge accumulation around Fe sites, leading to balanced proton adsorption for HER and lower energy barrier for OER. This strategy not only enables scaled-up synthesis of nanostructured electrocatalysts, but also provides a platform for exploring more functional nanostructured compounds.
