Influence of CH4/air injection location on non-premixed flame blow-off limits in a novel micro-combustor

Lun Ma et al.

Summary: This paper develops a novel non-premixed CH4/air micro-combustor to avoid flame flash-back issue and extend flame blow-off limits. The influence of two different CH4/air injection locations on flame blow-off limits is numerically investigated, and the mechanisms in this micro-combustor are profoundly revealed. The results show that this novel configuration can anchor the flame without flame flash-back issue and significantly extend flammability. The larger blow-off limits are attained for the Air((in))/CH4(out) injection location compared to the Air((out))/CH4(in) injection location.

NOx emission reduction in ammonia-powered micro-combustors by partially inserting porous medium under fuel-rich condition

Siliang Ni et al.

Summary: This study investigates the NOx emission performance in fuel-rich combustion of ammonia using micro combustors with double-rib structure partially inserted with porous medium. The results show that the porous medium can effectively reduce NO generation and emission under a larger inlet velocity. Increasing the thermal conductivity of the porous material can greatly decrease the emission of NO, but increase the emission of N2O. Additionally, increasing the porosity of the porous material leads to an increase in NO emission but a decrease in N2O emission.
